You're nobody in fashion unless you've got a blog - we asked four of the net's hottest names to report from a/w's front line

NEW YORK
by Julia Frakes

Twitter.com/bunnybisous

Twenty-year-old Julia is a rising fashion megastar: she writes, models, styles, knows everyone (Marc Jacobs is a fan, she spent NY Fashion Week hanging with Peaches Geldof and blogger Bryanboy) and is a front-row fixture. Her blog Bunny Bisous was a pioneer of the teen fash-blog phenomenon (the wunderkind started juliapin.typepad.com when she was 17). She now delivers her witticisms via her style-stalker essential Twitter account.
“At fashion week, I do tweet a lot [Julia racked up more than 300 tweet in 13 days]. It all started when I had forgotten my notebook and couldn’t figure out how to write notes in my Iphone. It’s fun because you can see them in the room, you can check up on them on Twitter – it’s like a whole parallel universe out there!
“To prep for fashion week, I thought I ought to get a pedicure and lo and behold, I end up in a salon next to designer Oliver Theykens (right across from mr right NOW). Wish I weren’t such a Nervous Nelly & had the chutzpah to say hello’.
“For the second season, I am styling Rachel Antonoff’s collection. It has a mystery/Nancy Drew theme. It goes without and wins fashionista.com’s award for most creative presentation.
“On Sunday, I put on a Marc Jacobs dress, vintage YSL heels and a Peter Jensen cardigans for my friend Peter Jensen’s first show at Milk Studios (he usually shows in London). Afterwards, I meet up with Peaches and we hop over to the Tribeca Grand hotel before Alexander Wang’s show, where I tweet:”Working Girl (suiting, structure) marries Downtown Girl (studs, backpacks) at Wang’.
“Later, I host Peter’s ‘Welcome to America’s after –party. Back home, I make a batch of organic guacamole, catch up on The Rachel Maddow Show for my daily dose of politics and call it a night!
“After the Preen show, tweet:’Preen’s best effort to date – want to hibernate in those cocoon cots!’ Proenza Schoulder rounds out the season with its signature leggy silhouttes and downtown naivete in a cheeky schoolgirl theme (think un-saccharine baby-doll dress polished off with thigh-highs showing just an ounce of skin).”

LONDON by Jackie Dixon
Showmeyourwardrobe.com

Celebrity stylist Jackie Dixon’s genius blog Show Me Your Wardrobe is every fashionista’s homepage fave (mostly because they’re all in it), documenting style insiders and their incredible wardrobes. She’s featured everyone from Tamsin Egerton to Instyle’s very own senior fashion editor Natalie Hartley. Her unique photography style has also seen her snapping special projects for Benetton and Topshop. She tweets at twitter.com/smyw.
“Paul Costelloe kicks off proceedings and, despite the early hour, the turnput is impressive: every fashionista worth her Nicholas Kirkwoods is here Botoxed, highlighted and glued to her Iphone or Blackberry. I spend the morning being eyed up and down by street style photographers – does anyone have a blog? Get dismissed more often than my egocan cope with and consider going peroxide blonde for a more eye-catching look.
“I get busy with great shots of the lovely Nicola Roberts and Rachel Stevens, the, when I return to my seat, see that someone has tweeted ‘Spotted at Bodyamr: Show Me Your Wardrobe’s Jackie snapping celebs’. Hilarious!
“My friend Emma White Turtle is the key make-up artist for Mark Fast’show. I sit proudly in the front row next to the gorgeous Lola Lennox. Charles Anastase’s show is definitely a highlight – I find myself tweeting: ‘mad bag lady chic’.
“At Mulberry, there are dogs on the catwalk. So fashion. Afterwards, I head over to Matthew Williamson.
“Extremes of fashion week mean that one minute I’m in the pub with Mark Fast and his sister Rowena, the next thing we’re on the red carpet hving our picture taken with Sarah Brown – very random! Am very excited about the Ashish show and it doesn’t disappoint – sequins pyjamas, lumberjac shirts and tank tops.
“At Mulberry, I find myself opposite Kate Hudson, one of the Olsen twins (apologies – I can’t tell which one!), Kristen Stewart and Claire Danes. Note to self: aviator jackets are definitely the new trench.
“As a lovely finishing touch, I notice that Show Me Your Wardrobe has been added to the blog Portal list on the British Fashion Council website. What a great end to the week!”

MILAN by Kristin Knox
Theclotheswhisperer.com

New Yorker Kristin Knox’s London-based blog The clothes Whisperer brings together great insider pics with witty accounts of her daily fashion grind. Her refreshing in irreverence has earned her front-row kudos, book deals and 50,000- hits a month. Oh, and her insanely cute dog can be found blogging (yes, really) at buttersthefashiondog.blogspot.com. We have a massive puppy-crush. She tweets at twitter.com/clotheswhisper.
“At fashion week, I’m constantly tweeting, though I try to take photos during the shows, so will only send a tweet or two while the models as actually walking. I tweet things that I can’t bear to not get out there – close celebrity encounters, a particularly amazing statement piece, hilarious moments. In Milan, I was tweeting more than I should (scary, scary phone bill), up to ten times a day. “ I blog one to two posts a day. I try to post during lunch or when I get a a gap in-between shows. If there’s no internet, I work on editing photos (while waiting for a sow to start or in a cab), so they’re ready to go as soon a my laptop can find a signal. If there’s no break in the schedule or no wi-fi, it has to wait until I get back to my flat or hotel. In Milan, in most cases, unless you can afford to stay in five-star luxury hotel, the connection is heinously slow.
On my first day, I’m en route to a Fendi showroom appointment. I manage to grab a few images of the lush lynx coats and patchwork furs as well as the latest renditions of my serious It-bags crush of the last several seasons, the Peekaboo.
“After the Etro show, I bump into my friend and fellow blogger Yvan Rodic [facehunter.blogspot.com] snapping outside. After posing for hi, it’s off to John Richmond. Later, at Gucci, I run into Yvan again, who calls me down from my seat, where I am just a few places away from Branboy.
“ As I make my way down to the runway to pose for the obligatory snap, before I know it, a PR sits me down in the front row, a stone’s throw from Rachel Zoe! I tweet: ‘Rachel Zoe just oky’d my ensemble and smiles at me!!’
“After dropping by Galleria Carla Sozzani from Tim Walker exhibition (he’s Richard Avedon’s former assistant), it’ on to Pollini and Versus where we sight Susie Bubble backstage. I then head with fellow blogger Charlotte Smith [stylecartel.com] to a delicious trattoria for supper. It’s an early night as we’re off early to Paris. Arrivederci Milano. Till next season!”

PARIS by Phil Oh
Streetpeeper.com

Since 2006, Phil Oh has been tracking down fash-happy subjects – with more than 250,000 hits a month, his blog is one of the best. He tweets at Twitter.com/mrstreetpeeper.
“The best part about day one of Paris Fashion Week is that I can use jet lag as an excuse for being lazy. I get the keys for the Marais apartment I’m sharing with UK blogger Susie Bubble, then nap.
“Finally drag my ass out for the 3pm Dries Van Noten show in the Hotel de Ville – it’s the first time I’ve been invited to Dries and am super excited. All my fellow street-style pals are there: Tommy Ton, Scott Schuman, Garance Dore and Nanneil Mustaparta. About two dozen new ones get in my way, elbowing me in the face while I’m trying to shoot models and editors!
“After Dries, our lil’street-style battalion marches over to Colette to see Todd Selby’s windows. It’s karaoke day: in the past , I’ve tried to repress my Asian genetic disposition to karaoke, but R Kelly’s “Ignition (Remix)” on the song list reawakens the sleeping dragon in me.
‘Make it for the 3pm Balmain show on Wednesday. It’s bad location to shoot, though, now that there are so many more bloggers and aspiring It-girls clogging the sidewalk. So we start playing around and find a perfect lighting spot where the sun reflects off a store window mirror.
“Every season, GrandLife NYC [The Soho and Tribeca Grand Hotels] puts on a huge party. This year, I was asked to co-host it for mostly New Yorkers and in-the-know Parisians.
“The next day, I’m hungover and totally incapacitated – I would stay in bed, but there‘s no way I’m going to miss the Yves Saint Lauren show. No way, aside from my friend taking forever to decide which shoes to wear (the YSL ones, duh) and gridlock traffic. Get to the Grand Palais just in time!
“On the last day, I’m exhausted and ready to go home. I have just one last show I plan to shoot – Louis Vuitton at the Lourve, but afterwards, Hanneli hauls me across town to Paul & Joe and Hermes, where I get a couple more good photos. On the way home, we stop by McDonald’s – how totally glamorous!”
